Ellen Finnerty is an Irish artist and performer. She is based between Ireland, France and Catalonia. In Dublin she founded bluehouse theatre, an emerging, award winning company of five artists making formally experimental work – their latest piece is a demi-opera about a fish tank exploding in the lobby of a luxury hotel. Having studied English literature in Dublin she moved to Paris where she did two years of physical theatre training at École Jacques Lecoq. Here, Ellen set up the theatre company Can ai Gó with Catalan poet and performer Hug Casals. They make provocative physical theatre that can be accessed across different languages. They are currently developing a piece about language and tongues. As a performer she is interested in the idea of presence, the ways we can inhabit our bodies and the ways our bodies can inhabit text. She is now living in a village in the Pyrenees Mountains under the Canigó.
